Out of 5,353 gas pumps inspected in Taipei and New Taipei City in July, only 29 failed to meet measurement standards, a move designed to assure consumers that they are not being cheated on the forecourt, the Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspections (BSMI) announced.
This represents a failure rate of 0.5 percent, a slight improvement compared with 2010, when 0.6 percent of the pumps tested failed inspection standards, according to the BSMI.
12 failed inspections among the gas pumps tested, because of missing certification documents, said BSMI general director Chen Jay.
Gas pumps must have certification to prove they meet BSMI standards, which are valid for two years.
